SPIRIT LAKE – Funeral services for Dorothy Miller, 85, of Spirit Lake and formerly Jackson, Minn., will be held 11 a.m. Monday, May 9, 2011, at the First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake. Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. at the Schuchert Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Interment will be at Lincoln Township Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Monday.
She died Thursday, May 5, 2011, at Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake.
She was born on Oct. 3, 1925, in Helena, Ark., to Lamar and Mabel (Fisher) Townsend.
Dorothy graduated from Helena High School in 1942 and the University of Mississippi in 1945. She was united in marriage to Ralph Miller on Dec. 28, 1946, in Helena, Ark. Ralph passed away on Nov. 24, 2008.
Dorothy taught for 35 years, before going back to Mankato State University to earn her master’s degree in 1970. She was a guidance counselor for the next 18 years, before retiring.
Dorothy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she served on the women’s church circle, Questers and volunteered at the Lakes Art Center. She enjoyed spending her spare time golfing, reading, traveling, antiquing and playing bridge. She truly enjoyed spending time with her family!
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Jan Richards, and her husband, Steve, of Spirit Lake; two grandchildren, Christopher Richards, and his wife, Melissa, of Spirit Lake, and Alison Richards Watson, and her husband, Travis, of Snohomish, Wash. and two great-grandchildren, Rhapsody Richards and Kyle Miller Watson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lamar and Mabel, and her husband, Ralph.
