SWEA CITY – Funeral services for Roy Rohlin, 87, of Okoboji will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at First United Methodist Church in Swea City with Pastor Todd Hartsock officiating. Visitation will be 4:30-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25 at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville. Interment will be at Harrison Township Cemetery in Swea City.
He died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at Lakes Regional Health Care in Spirit Lake.
Roy Rohlin, the son of George and Elsie (Johnson) Rohlin, was born April 24, 1926, in Swea City.
He received his education in the Swea City Schools, graduating from Swea City High School in 1944.
On Oct. 21, 1949, Roy was united in marriage to Phyllis Hilpipre. Roy worked for Kossuth County Road Department and then Iowa Road Builders for 13 years as foreman. In 1963, he started Rohlin Construction Company Inc. in Estherville and operated it until 2004. He had a dream of owning farmland and having his own road construction business (both of those dreams came true).
He served on several boards including, Asphalt Paving Association as director and president; four years as Iowa Representative for National Asphalt Paving Association; and was inducted to the Iowa Hot Mix Asphalt Hall of Fame. Roy also received the Man of the Year Award in Estherville.
Roy loved going to farm and road equipment auctions. Roy and Phyllis enjoyed spending winters at Fountain of the Sun in Mesa, Ariz.
Left to cherish Roy’s memory are his wife, Phyllis, of Okoboji; brother, Robert Rohlin, and his wife, Dee, of Buffalo, Minn.; nephews, Peter, James and Robb Rohlin; Steve and Brad Letcher; nieces, Cathy Johnson, Kristin Kuhlman and special niece and caregiver, Kaelynn Gould.
