DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – Funeral services for Caroline Cramer, 90, of Detroit Lakes, Minn. and formerly Estherville, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville with Pastor Lynn Elrod officiating. Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery.
She died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, at Essentia Oak Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, Minn.
Caroline Priscilla (Kepler) Cramer, the daughter of Merle and Gladyce (Kettering) Kepler, was born March 22, 1923, in Lisbon, Iowa.
Caroline grew up on farms north of Lisbon until she was about eight and the family moved into town. She received her education in the Lisbon schools, graduating from Lisbon High School in 1940. In school Caroline played the violin and later switched to the cornet. She played in the school orchestra. She was very active in the Lisbon Federated Church Choir. Following graduation from high school she attended Cornell College and later the University of Iowa.
Caroline was united in marriage to Gordon E. Rahn on Feb. 14, 1943 at the Iowa City Methodist Church. The couple made their home in Iowa City and Caroline was employed in the business office at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics while Gordon attended medical school. The couple divorced in 1953. On May 21, 1955, Caroline was united in marriage to Wayne Cramer in Las Vegas. They lived for a time in Clear Lake, Des Moines and Kamrar. In 1962, the couple made their home in Estherville where they continued raising their family and Caroline along with being a homemaker was employed at Sperry Univac in Jackson, Minn. and later UNISYS in Clear Lake after the Jackson plant closed. Wayne died Jan. 23, 1999.
Caroline was a member of the United Methodist Church.
Left to cherish Caroline’s memory are her children, Victor Jon Rahn and significant other, Sherian Collins, of Mechanicsville, Vance Gordon Rahn and his wife, Janine, of Anderson, S.C., Rox Ellsworth Rahn and his wife, Sonya, of Palm Coast, Fla., David Cramer, wife, Jodi, of Albuquerque, N.M. and Christopher Cramer and his significant other, Connie Gobel, of Detroit Lakes; stepson, Brian Cramer, and his wife, Mary, of St. Paul, Minn.; step-daughter, Karen Johnson; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and sister-in-law, Charlotte Cramer, of Lander, Wyo.
Preceding Caroline in death were her husband; a grandson, Zuric Rahn; step-son, Wayne Junior Cramer; her parents and brothers, Louis and Paul.
