Merle E. Yule
Merle E. Yule was born April 8, 1925 in Estherville to Elver and Beulah Yule. He passed away Feb. 7 in Mesa, Ariz.
Merle graduated from Estherville High School in 1943. He played football and was considered a champion at tennis and table tennis.
Merle entered the U.S. Army soon after high school graduation and served in the European Theater until 1945. After his honorable discharge, he attended Iowa State College one year, then returned to Estherville and worked for the Rock Island Railroad until his retirement. He also established a horticulture business and served residents well, taking care of their lawns and horticulture needs. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the VFW.
Merle married Jeanie Perkins in August of 1946. They were the parents of one daughter, Kim. They spent their winters in Mesa, Ariz., after retirement. Merle is survived by one granddaughter, Sarah. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jeanie, and daughter Kim, a brother Bill and sister Ivy Ficken. Graveside rites will be held in the spring.
