Mary Ellen “Mert” Yackle
ESTHERVILLE – Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Ellen “Mert” Yackle, 83, of Estherville will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014, with Monsignor Michael Sernett as Celebrant. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Henry-Olson Funeral
Chapel in Estherville with Vigil Service at 8 p.m. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Armstrong.
She died Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Society in Estherville.
Mary Ellen “Mert” (Kimmet) Yackle, the daughter of Louis and Anna (Petersen) Kimmet, was born June 19, 1930 in Ringsted.
She received her education and graduated from Ringsted High School in 1947.
On Sept. 15, 1947 she was united in marriage to Floyd Yackle at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Armstrong. Following their marriage the couple made their home on a farm near Ringsted until 1950 and then moved to Bancroft until 1966. The couple then farmed in the Dolliver area and in 1974 they moved near Estherville and continued farming. Mert was employed with the United States Postal Service for over 23 years, retiring in 1992. In 2001, Mert and her son, Steve, visited Danish cousins in Scandinavia. In 2002, she went to Italy to the Vatican City, Assisi and Pompeii. Mert also visited New York City and she and Floyd made three trips to Hawaii. Mert and Floyd enjoyed winters in Florida, Arizona and Las Vegas and many visits to Indiana and Michigan to visit friends they met in Hawaii.
She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters, Genealogy Society, Good Samaritan Auxiliary, Dolliver Chatter Club, Pioneer Club, Danish American Fellowship, Red Hat’s Queen Mum, Galloping Grandma’s Relay for Life and Estherville Public Library.
Left to cherish Mert’s memory are her children, Susan Wilander and her husband, Chet, of Bemidji, Minn.; Steve Yackle of Estherville; Nancy Yackle and spouse, Anne Marie Aita, of Omaha, Neb.; David Yackle and his wife, Brenda, of Eagle Grove; Janet Yackle of Minneapolis; Mark Yackle and his wife, Patti, of Wallingford; Mary Feldman and her husband, Mike, of Ruthven; 11 grandchildren, Matt Yackle; Andy and Tessa Yackle; Jenny Yackle and Jess Olsen; Katie Yackle; Sarah Yackle; Judy Yackle and friend, Dustin Moore; Christine and Ryan Nielsen; Paula Yackle; Heidi Yackle; Tommy Yackle and Brian Yackle; 11 great-grandchildren; siblings, Louise Carley of Cleveland; Mike Kimmet and his wife, Kay, of Fairmont, Minn.; Tom Kimmet and his wife, Carol, of Estherville; Connie Maday of Litchfield, Minn. and Alice Jacobson and her husband, Rod, of Albert Lea, Minn. She has been preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Floyd; parents, sister, Judy Thibodeau and baby brother, George.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church or Respite Angels.
