Marvel Houge Dec. 17, 1932 – Nov. 7, 2016
Funeral services for Marvel Houge, 83, of Estherville, will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016, at Estherville Lutheran Church in Estherville with Pastor Tim Johnson officiating. Interment will be at Superior Township Cemetery, Superior. Marvel departed this life on Monday, Nov. 7, 2016, at Rosewood Manor in Estherville.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church only on Thursday
Marvel Naomi (Baker) Houge, the daughter of Snowden and Blanche (Wilson) Baker was born Dec. 17, 1932, in Winterset.
On July 15, 1951, she was united in marriage to Claron Houge at Lackland Air Force Base at Wichita Falls, Texas. The couple owned and operated their own store, House of Bargains, which was renamed Clair’s Variety. Marvel also served as a sales representative for various companies including the Daily News. Marvel was a well-known artist for over 40 years, receiving many awards and “Best of Show” ribbons.
Marvel was a member of the Estherville Lutheran Church; ELCW; V.F.W. Auxiliary; Pheasants Forever; Ducks Unlimited; and Iowa Federated Club.
Left to cherish Marvel’s memory are her two sons, Scott Houge of Fairmont, Minn.; Michael Houge and his wife, Pamela of Graettinger; five grandchildren, Heather; Ariana; Naomi; Christina; Jordan; four great-grandchildren, Grace, Ellison, Emery and Presley; two brothers, Carroll Baker and his wife, Maude of Dickens; Robert “Gailen” Baker of Darby, Mont., and also two sisters-in-law, Dolores Book and her husband, Melvin of Graettinger and Barb Thompson all of Graettinger.
Preceding Marvel in death are her parents; granddaughter, Michelle; two brothers, Richard and Phillip.
