LaVerna E. Anderson Aug. 23, 1919 – Nov. 26, 2016
Funeral services for LaVerna E. Anderson, 97, of Wallingford will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016, at Wallingford Lutheran Church in Estherville with Pastor Christine Lang officiating. Interment will be at Wallingford Lutheran Cemetery, Wallingford. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
LaVerna Elaine (Olson) Anderson, the daughter of Levi and Emma (Axelton) Olson, was born on Aug. 23, 1919 at the home farm, where Greg Paulson family now lives.
She was baptized at the Lutheran Church in Graettinger and received her first eight years of education at the Blue Bottom School and graduated from Graettinger High School.
On April 12, 1941 she was united in marriage to Norman Anderson in Armstrong. The couple made their home in Wallingford for a short time, as Norman was called into service for WWII. Upon his return from the Army, they started farming and in 1960 moved to a farm east of Wallingford. In 1963, Norman passed away from a heart attack. LaVerna and her family of four remained on the farm until 1970 when she moved into her present home in Wallingford.
In 1965 LaVerna was honored as Emmet County Homemaker at an event in Sioux City. She has worked various places, Ben Franklin, Berkleys, Good Samaritan, and 1 years at Holy Family Hospital as Central Services Tech. A few years later in 1990, she took a position as clerical worker for the Department of Human Services on a part-time basis until 1997.
LaVerna was an active member in her church as a Sunday School Teacher and President, she served on church council, held offices in WLCW and Miriam Circle; she also held various offices in the American Legion Auxiliary both at the local and county level.
LaVerna loved music and played both guitar and piano, in later years for her own entertainment. She was involved in quilt making and quilting, many of which she gave away. She also loved to crochet and tatting.
Left to cherish her memory are two sons Loren and his wife Linda Anderson of Gruver and Orvis Anderson of Estherville. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Sara (Troy) Neil, Joel (Connie) Anderson, Chad Anderson, Todd (Lisa) Carr, Laura (Pat) Ryan, Samantha Corrie, Michelle Beattie; and her great grandchildren: Blake, Trevor, Cambrie, Kynlie, Nolan, Kinsey, Gage, Quinn, Jacob, Peyton and Paige.
Preceding Laverna in death were her husband, Norman; daughter, Judy; son, Norris; parents, and two sisters Oreen Olson and Avis (Francis) Paulson.
