Bruce G. Mitchell

Funeral services for Bruce G. Mitchell, 91, of Estherville, will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, Feb. 13, at the United Methodist Church in Estherville with Pastor Cory Allard officiating. Interment will military rites by VFW Post 3388 will be held at Eastside Memorial Cemetery, Estherville. On Feb. 8, 2017, Bruce passed away at his home.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 12, 16 the Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville.

Bruce G. Mitchell, the son of George E. and Dora Hazel (Estes) Mitchell, was born on Jan. 7, 1926, in Wessington, S.D. As a child the family moved to Estherville, where he attended high school. At the age of 18 he entered into the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946, and returned to Estherville.

On Nov. 2, 1947, he was united in marriage to Maxine Mann in Dunnell, Minn. The couple made their home in Estherville, where Bruce owned and operated Mitchell Construction. He built many local buildings, including the United Methodist parsonage. Maxine passed away on June 29, 2009. Bruce continued to live in his own home after her passing.

Bruce was a member of the United Methodist Church, where he was an usher. He was also a past member of the Rotary and Estherville Chamber of Commerce. Bruce was a life member of the VFW Post #3388 and the ELKS Lodge. In his free time, he enjoyed dancing, traveling, hunting, and fishing.

Left to cherish Bruce’s memory are his children: Londa Kroone of Fridley, MN, Janet (Steve) Molstad of Manly, IA, Jay (Sharon) Mitchell of Chaska, MN, and Grant (Robyn) Mitchell of Estherville, IA; his grandchildren Jason (Amie) Kroone of Las Vegas, NV, Robert Molstad of Champlin, MN, Erick (Donjia) Molstad of Manly, IA, Jeremy (Pam) Mitchell of Cottage Grove, MN, Bethany (Justin) Faber of Kensett, IA, and Jeffrey (Kayla) Mitchell of Waconia, MN; his step-grandsons Justin Burtis (fianc Alicia) of Estherville and Zachary (Olivia) Burtis of Joice, IA; his 20 great-grandchildren; and his sister-in-law Ruth Mitchell.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Maxine; his sisters, Maxine Lieb and Irene Manogue; and his brothers George, Carlyle, Robert, and Raymond.
