Gertrude Natterstad Oct. 9, 1930 – March 22, 2017

Funeral services for Gertrude Natterstad, 86, of Estherville, were 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 25, 2017, at Wallingford Lutheran Church, Wallingford, with Pastor Christine Lang officiating. Interment is at Wallingford Lutheran Cemetery, Wallingford. She passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at Hawkeye Care Center in Spirit Lake.

Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m., Friday at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville.

Gertrude M. (Bondhus) Natterstad, the daughter of Samuel and Amanda (Tveitnes) Bondhus, was born Oct. 9, 1930, at home near Dolliver.

She attended school in Dolliver and graduated from Dolliver High School. After completion of high school she attended Estherville Junior College for one year. After college Gertrude was employed at Emmet County State Bank.

On June 6, 1953, she was united in marriage to Vernon Natterstad at Estherville Lutheran Church in Estherville. Following their marriage the couple made their home and began raising their family in rural Wallingford, engaging in farming for 40 years, from 1953-1993. Along with being a full time mom and farm wife, Gertrude also raised chickens. After retirement, the couple continued to make their home on their farm. Vernon died May 10, 2004. Gertrude continued to live on the farm until 2009. In her leisure time Gertrude enjoyed sewing, quilting and reading. Mostly Gertrude was all about her family, especially keeping up with stories about her grandkids and more recently her great-grandkids.

She was a member of Wallingford Lutheran Church where she had been active in the past in church circle, serving as treasurer and she was also involved in the quilting group.

Left to cherish Gertrude’s memory are two daughters, Colleen Reinhardt and her husband, John of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa and their children, Andrea, Matt (Heather) and Megan; Karen Moreau and her husband, Dr. Bill of Colorado Springs, Colo., and their children, Kevin (Sylvia) and Craig; son, Gary Natterstad and his wife, Tina of Estherville and their children, Samantha Linn (Taylor), Heather and Kirsten; great-grandchildren, Addison Reinhardt and Emmet and Douglas Moreau; and four sisters, Carol Clear and her husband, Elmer of Rosemont, Minn., Arlene Gage and her husband, Don of Dolliver, Ruth Bondhus of Estherville and Doris Haley and her husband, Chuck of Longmont, Colo.

Gertrude has been preceded in death by her husband; parents and sister, Marlys Nelson.
