Donald Eugene Hudson Jan. 14, 1936 – Jan. 27, 2018
Donald Eugene Hudson passed away on Jan. 27, 2018, in Jupiter, Fla. Donald was born on Jan. 14, 1936, in Graettinger, Iowa, to Gene and Helen (Andre) Hudson. He grew up on a farm near Estherville, and graduated from Estherville High School in 1953. He enlisted in the Air Force in1955 and spent two years in Turkey as a cryptanalyst. After his discharge, he attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa and graduated with a B.S. degree in Aerospace Engineering in 1963. He worked as a rocket scientist for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in West Palm Beach, Fla., for 7 years. He earned an MBA from Florida Atlantic University in 1972, and spend the rest of his career as an engineer for Southern Bell, retiring in 1991. After his retirement he was an active volunteer, driving for Second Harvest and Meals on Wheels, and tutoring at a local after school program, where he was honored as Volunteer of the Year in 2017.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years Alice (Peterson), daughter Martha (Richard) Carter of Florida, son Dan (Lacey) of Oregon, grandson Adam (Heather) Carter of Oklahoma, brother Ivan (Ellen) of San Francisco, sisters Shirley Johnson and Maxine (Bernard) Nelson of Iowa, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brothers Duane and Stanley.
A memorial picnic will be held on April 29 from 12 to 5 p.m. at Cedar Lake Park (large shelter house) northwest of Trimont, Minn..
