Lorraine Joyce Perkins, age 92, of Clear Lake, SD passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at the Jenkins Living Center in Watertown, SD. A private family service will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Clear Lake, SD. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery, Clear Lake.

Lorraine was born to Gilbert and Clara (Christensen) Ahrenstorff in Sioux Valley, MN on September 18, 1928. Lorraine was raised in and graduated high school from Lake Park, IA. In January of 1948 she met Ralph Perkins at a 4-H dance. They were married September 5, 1948. To this union 10 children were born. Ralph and Lorraine lived on various farms in Iowa prior to moving to South Dakota in 1963 to the Bar X Ranch.

Lorraine started working at the Good Samaritan Home in 1976. She retired from Good Sam after 13 years. Lorraine and Ralph “retired” and moved from the ranch into Clear Lake in 1984. While “retired” Lorraine was a familiar face over the years working at many local businesses. She worked at the Cardinal Drive Inn, the Ice Berg Drive Inn, the West Side Café, Sodak Gardens, and finally at her daughter Ardy’s Bakery. She was also involved in many community organizations. Lorraine was a member for the Prairie Neighbors Extension Club, assistant 4-H leader, St. Paul’s WELCA, and Clear Lake Lions, where she was actively involved in each one.

Lorraine belonged to the Peden Cole American Legion Auxiliary at Gary, SD where she held many local and state offices. She was the District 3 president of the American Legion Auxiliary, as well as State Chaplin.

Lorraine had a wonderful sense of humor and will forever be remembered as kind, generous, compassionate, and hard working. With extreme patience she taught six daughters how to sew, can, bake, paint, and wallpaper just to name a few. She had a sweet spirit and was never one to complain no matter how difficult life could get. Lorraine’s signature hugs were known by many and she treasured time spent with family and friends. Over the years she was known as Ma Perkins and she was loved by everyone who met her.
