Constance Elaine Carlson
Constance Elaine Carlson was born on May 7, 1947, the daughter of George and Virginia (Hudson) Staples in Ellsworth, Iowa. She died Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at her home in Estherville at the age of 73 years.
Connie graduated from South Hamilton High School, in Jewell, IA in 1965. She attended Morningside College in Sioux City, IA and Millsaps college in Jackson, MS where she earned a degree in education.
She married Lanny Carlson on June 3, 1968 and from this union three children were born, Tina, Paul, and Joy.
Connie worked briefly in education, but spent the majority of her working life as a CNA, working mostly with Alzheimer’s patients, most recently at Good Sams in Estherville.
She enjoyed nature, gardening, music, singing, dancing, drawing, pretending, Si-Fi, reading, up-cycling, and puzzles. Connie was known for her ability to find the extraordinary in the ordinary, her love of silly word play, her creativity, and for having funny nicknames for her loved ones. She attended Crossroads Community Church in Estherville.
Connie is survived by her children, Tina (Jerry) Twito, Paul Carlson, and Joy (J.D.) Skyberg-Worden; her foster-daughter, Louisa Bockstedt II; three grandchildren, Kira (Gary) Robinson, Rebekah Skyberg-Worden and Aaron Johnson; two great-grandchildren, Guinevere and Gawain Robinson; her siblings, Georgia (Denver) Widick and Monte (Lori) Staples; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Lanny Carlson, her parents, George and Virginia Staples, a brother, Randy Staples, niece Jennifer Kloss, and son-in-law, Austin Skyberg.
Memorial service to be held Saturday, February 6 at 2 p.m. at Good News Community Church in Estherville. (Back up date on February 13 at 2 p.m.)
