That’s about all you can say about the folks on the Armstrong Aquatic Center Committee who to date have raised nearly $200,000 toward paying for a new pool.

After last Friday night’s Leap-Day fundraiser, the committee had raised right at $194,000 toward the project.

Fundraising only began last June with a luau at the Community Center. If you want to round out the numbers, look at it this way: In the last nine months, Armstrong has raised roughly $200 for every man, woman, and child in the community toward the pool project.

That is a stunning number.

That’s not all, though. The committee plans to continue its fundraising efforts until it reaches its $300,000 goal, a huge way toward the $800,000 project.

They do things a little differently in Armstrong. Instead of just taxing the bejeebers out of everybody, they have a lot of parties and raffles and fundraisers and a lot of fun while they get the money together for what they need. Sounds like a good time, doesn’t it?

Winner of the five-person hot tub raffle grand prize from CWR and Great Lakes was Jenny Baas. Sally Underwood won the second prize of a $500 Bridges Bay Resort gift certificate. Roger Tirevold won $150 in Armstrong Bucks. Jesse Prochniak won the Jetta laptop computer donated by Iowa Telecom for the silent auction.

If you would like to dive in and pool together too, send your donation to the Armstrong Aquatic Center Fund, P.O. Box 229, Armstrong, IA 50514.

And remember to attend the annual Fourth of July festivities in Armstrong where the fundraising will continue in earnest.

It’s a great cause and it will be a great time.
