Congratulations go to Estherville on raising $104,181.38 in 100 days, well ahead of Excel! Estherville’s goal of $100,000 in the same period.

Not only making but exceeding that goal so well is a testament to the dedication of the people of Estherville to their future.

With gas and diesel prices going through the ceiling, local promotion takes on a whole new picture. It requires a total rethinking of how we market ourselves and how we think about ourselves as both entrepreneurs and consumers.

For that reason, Excel! Estherville couldn’t come at a better time.

When a trip out of town becomes cost-prohibitive, shopping and finding entertainment locally takes on greater significance. It’s not just the price of gas, either. Diesel prices affect everything, from the food we eat to the clothes we wear to everything else.

The communities that not only survive but thrive through tougher economic times that seem to be around the corner will be the ones that can become self-sufficient in as many ways as possible. If we can develop recreational trails, build our downtown, and promote our area to not just outsiders but to ourselves as well, we will be able to sustain our economic growth.

It’s important, though, to look at the whole package. And that’s where Excel! Estherville comes in.

Excel! Estherville addresses not only economic development, but also recreation, culture, housing, and the overall quality of life in our community. The more attractive we can make Estherville as a place to live and work, the more people will want to stay here — generation after generation. And the more other people will become attracted to our community.
