“Get Your Red Hots at the Estherville Daily News tonight!”
This newspaper, along with other 22 businesses, are participating in the 2008 Chuck Wagon Day from 5-7 p.m. If you have a hankering for a hot dog, or two or more, just stroll up and down the streets to get some free fantastic frankfurters. They are yours for the taking!
You may have to drive to some of the hot spots to dine on the dogs but it will be well worth your time and gasoline!
There will be over 6,000 hot dogs waiting to tantalize taste buds.
It has been tradition that most of the merchants have special condiments and sauces to jazz up the free hot dogs.
It’s a safe bet there will be ketchup, mustard, onions, relish, and of these favorites, there will be varied flavored ketchups, mustards and relishes. Chances are good hot dog connoisseurs will also be tempted with sauerkraut, cheese, chili, salsa and perhaps a whole host of other delicious toppings.
And hot dogs are not the only excitement on tap. There will root beer floats on sale on Central Avenue, a book sale by PEO on North Sixth Street and an online contest for the best hot dog topping. Voters can go to http://www.estherville.org‘>www.estherville.org to lock in a selection until 9 a.m. Friday.
Also scheduled are the traditional shoot-out at 5:30 p.m. and the hot dog eating contest.
This is one event rated as a fun-filled evening in Estherville where merchants go out of the their way to say thank you to their customers with free hot dogs.
