Indians fall to No. 1 Braves

CHEROKEE — The Spirit Lake baseball team only managed three hits against Class 2A No. 1 Cherokee with the Braves shutting out the Indians 7-0 on Monday.

Cherokee scored five runs in the first two innings and added two insurance runs in the sixth.

For the Indians, Brad Engel, Nik Erickson and Tyler Dean all went 1-2 at the plate.

The Indians sent four pitchers against the Braves. Engel pitched one inning giving up one hit and two walks. Ethan Carlson pitched two innings, giving up four hits and striking out four batters. Kyle Heidebrink pitched two innings, striking out one and walking two and Mitch Peschon pitched one inning, striking out one batter and walking one.

Cherokee 3, Spirit Lake 2

CHEROKEE — The Spirit Lake softball team lost 3-2 to Cherokee on Monday.

Mary Brown took the loss as she struck out seven batters and walked two.

At the plate, Megan Ingvall was 2-3, Kaisha Brown was 2-3 with two doubles and two RBIs, Alli Gerking was 2-2 with a sacrifice and Emily Mercer was 1-3.
