On Wednesday, the Emmet County Community Foundation awarded just over $57,000 in grants to 14 organizations throughout Emmet County dedicated to helping others.
Beyond that, the foundation has awarded nearly $150,000 in the past three years to nonprofit groups throughout the county.
Grant funding comes from proceeds from the State Gaming Commission that are awarded to counties without casinos. A large majority of Iowa counties, 85 out of 99, do not have casinos. It’s a way to ensure that people throughout Iowa share the wealth of gaming proceeds.
Local community foundations were also established to help administer endowment funds that people may wish to give. In addition to federal tax deductions, donors receive a state tax credit which makes donating to a community foundation far easier.
As the permanent endowment fund grows, the more grants can be given. To date, several million dollars have been given to local community foundations throughout Iowa with the express purpose of building their permanent endowment funds.
By donating to the Emmet County Community Foundation, you are helping ensure a permanent legacy to our local area. Your money stays here, in Emmet County, to help the people you have known your entire life. And what better way to be remembered than to help the people you know.
