Amazing does not adequately describe one of the most poignant patriotic gestures we had the pleasure of witnessing in quite some time.

Just when it seems Americans are bitter, angry, indifferent and passe in the national attitude department, their strong sense in proud patriotism comes shining through in resilient red, sparkling white and dependable blue.

Picture it: a high school varsity softball game is about to begin play adjacent to a field where the boys baseball game is already seeing some heavy action around the bases.

When the game announcer asked those in the bleachers at the varsity game to please rise for the singing of the National Anthem, imagine our pleasant surprise to notice those playing, coaching, officiating and watching at the adjacent field stand and turn to face the direction of the flag at the varsity softball game. They halted play to pay tribute to the revered emblem and for all in which it stands.

It was a grand slam in the realm of E Pluribus Unum (From many, one or better put in the 21st century, We all are in this thing together!).

Despite the myriad of differences cascading against the backdrop of this nation including, but not limited to candidates, religion, economy, Iraq, gun control, immigration, fuel costs, same-sex unions, abortions, tax structure and all of the rest, everyone knows what it really means to be A-M-E-R-I-C-A-N and are proud to show our true colors!
