Thanks to the generosity of GKN Armstrong Wheels Monday helped two very worthy projects in Estherville.
First, GKN donated $5,000 to Excel! Estherville, the community-wide development program that has a vision of bettering Estherville’s business climate and quality of life.
Second was a donation to the Estherville Area Chamber of Commerce for the fireworks display during Sweet Corn Days.
Just recently, GKN announced it is donating $75,000 over a five-year period toward the Armstrong pool project, a key component in summer recreation for the youth of Armstrong.
GKN is what community support and involvement is all about. All too seldom, the storied benevolence of companies ends due to a change in ownership or a decline in concerns for the communities in which a company is located. That is certainly not the case for GKN. Time and time again, the company has come through to help those in need.
On top of that, GKN is a major employer in Emmet County, with plants in both Estherville and Armstrong.
If you have been a recipient of the generosity of this great company, thank them. Let them know that their investment in the local community is appreciated.
Let’s go to the fair
This is fair week, and you know what that means. Kids of all ages will be coming to town to see the exhibits and share in the fun and activities at the Emmet County Fair July 24-27.
While many county fairs charge admission, that’s not the case for the Emmet County Fair. It’s a come-as-you-are affair in which you can spend a whole afternoon or even a day enjoying the sights and sounds (and yes, even smells) of a great country tradition.
So don’t miss out. Go to the fair and enjoy yourself.
