Congratulations to the Estherville Lincoln Central Baseball Team on a spectacular season.
To finish the year playing at Iowa Cubs home-Principal Park in Des Moines-at the Class 3A State Tournament will be a memory for the ages for the 14 players, two coaches and numerous fans.
Thanks to the players for providing the memories. Although qualifying for the 3A state tournament simply requires a three-game win streak, it’s been 21 years (1987) since the Midgets made the trip. Thank you for all the time and work you put into the sport-especially seniors Matt Gruhlke and Marcus Stangl. Other team members contributing to the varsity this season were juniors Keith Fandel, Chance Moore, Scott Schmidt, sophomores Alex Arends, Justin Doyle, Jeremy Hunt, Joel Kazmerzak, Jake Lange, Cody Prather and freshmen Marcus Christensen and Tyler Lutz.
Thanks to coaches Chuck Fandel and Lee Evans for their hard work-teaching the players, maintaining the field and all the little things coaches do for the players and behind the scenes.
Thanks to the fans for their continuous support throughout the season and in Des Moines.
In various gatherings this past week, Coach Chuck Fandel has repeatedly said ELC fans are “second to none” in their behavior and sportsmanship.
A record crowd was on hand for the two evening games at Principal Park on Tuesday and ELC had its fair share.
We’re all looking forward to next season to see what the underclassmen can do.
