Emmet County Kinship is looking for your help.
Mentors are needed for matches with children in the Estherville area. Being a mentor is pretty easy. It just requires that a person be a caring adult who can devote one hour a week for a year with a child. It doesn’t cost that much. Generous merchants have provided coupons and discounts so mentors and children can enjoy movies or a meal out.
Many children enjoy just taking a walk in the park, going fishing, playing disc golf or just talking. The main thing is that a person be willing to lend a kind and listening ear.
In eastern Emmet County, more children are needed to match with a ready supply of Kinship mentors. Maybe you’re a parent who has a child who could benefit with another adult role model who is always there to listen. Kinship can help.
So whether you’re a prospective mentor or a parent who would like to know more about Kinship, call 362-2828 today.
Kinship has benefitted tremendously from the many generously who have brought books to the Daily News to donate toward the Kinship program. We now have several thousand books, and after sorting them according to genre, the Kinship booth at the Emmet County Fair in the Swan Lake Building will sell the books for 50 cents for paperbacks and $1 for hardcovers. Funds will go toward helping Kinship programs such as the July 11-12 cookout and campout at Fort Defiance State Park for kids, mentors, board members and their families.
So stop on by and visit the volunteers in the Kinship booth and catch up on some great summer reading. There are plenty of romances, mysteries, westerns and other books from which to choose. You’ll be helping out Kinship too, and in a big way.
And then there’s the Friends …
The Friends of Fort Defiance have a booth at this year’s fair too, also in the Swan Lake Building. Stop on by and pick up a brochure and become a Friend yourself. The cost is just $5 a person or $10 a family per year.
You can also mail your membership check to Friends of Fort Defiance, Membership Committee, P.O. Box 314, Estherville, IA 51334.
