The poll results are so tight that a few folks will be hanging on to the edge of the seat until after every ballot is counted on Tuesday, Aug. 26.

The question on the Estherville Daily News Website for the past two or so weeks asked, “Do you plan to vote for the local option sales tax in the August 26 election?”

The issue being put before voters in Estherville and areas surrounding the municipality is the 1 cent Local Options Sales Tax. The biggest push is coming from Excel! Estherville for the approval of this measure in the hopes the monies raised will make Estherville area a wonderful place to live, work and play

A total of 86 individuals took the time to select a response online.

Forty-seven percent (40) of those participating indicated they would check the YES! box.

Another 49 percent (42) of those completing the survey said they would vote NO!

And it is still up in the air due to a few considerations:

n A decided 5 percent (4) who voted are still UNDECIDED as to how they will vote.

n Hopefully more than those who participated in our web poll get an absentee ballot or go to the Masonic Lodge from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. for this special election.

n And the last consideration is this … everyone who votes in any web poll can be located anywhere in the county, state, country or nation. Wherever the Internet goes, so do the web poll questions.

So we implore you to do your civic duty. If you are over the age of 18, make sure to cast a ballot on this issue.

We are reminded at every election, how every vote counts.

And they count up better if everyone exercises this American right.

We encourage the public to attend the informational meeting concerning this election at 7 tonight in the Emmet County Courthouse boardroom.
