While we applaud the plummeting prices at the gas pump, it goes without saying that we still must Shop Estherville First.

Our local merchants and members of the Estherville Area Chamber of Commerce go above and beyond the call of duty in supporting everyone of us and that is every day.

It may come as a surprise to some of our readers that on any given day, the doors to any number of business are opened by those asking for “gifts” or “door prizes” for whatever upcoming event their organization is promoting and hosting.

Our fine businesses donate and give willingly.

Annually, the chamber does its part and provides lunch for the staff at the Estherville Lincoln School District at the district-wide meeting prior to the start of the school year.

Again, this is done in good faith because the members believe a quality education will produce quality citizens.

Many store owners, throughout the year, make special worthwhile donations to various groups like schools, the food pantry and fire department-in the wonderful spirit of being generous.

Now that we are all facing the same economic pinch, let’s not forget to patronize these steadfast businesses who are so giving to the community day in and day out. Instead of driving miles out of town, shop Estherville first.

You just may surprise yourself when you find what you are looking for.

The bonus is you will be saving time, money and gasoline in the long run.
