Holle Smith is no stranger in these parts. In fact, she is been a friend to everyone in the county in one way or another.
But the director of Extension Emmet County was the most shocked person in the room July 23 when Steve Jensen, president of the Emmet County Fair Board, announced she was the 2009 friend of the Emmet County Fair.
It was 34 years ago when Holle became an extension service director in Iowa. We know her to be knowledgeable, kind, friendly, approachable, fair, even-tempered and devoted to her work. She is a caring and concerned professional who puts others first many times during her work day.
Holle became an Emmet County resident herself. Then Dennis Smith took her as his bride. Mr. and Mrs. Smith settled in his home county to work and start their family. Both Brad and Jennifer were very active in the Emmet County 4-H program and we’re sure they were very helpful to their parents on the family farm.
She has gone out of her way many times to get information printed on these pages to benefit you, the taxpayers and neighbors in Emmet County.
Over the years, Holle has scheduled hundreds of 4-H clinics of all kinds, weigh-ins, exhibitions, field trips, county youth council activities/involvement, fair project preparation, 4-H Award Nights plus many more events and activities.
This individual’s work takes her into our schools for a variety of projects geared to assist children and families. Walk-ins to the extension office 99.9 percent of the time walk away with the information they need, thanks to Holle and her staff.
In tribute to this great individual, we present this acronym-Holle stands for:
Way to go and congratulations Holle! You are one in a million and we are glad you call Emmet County home.
