Inman recognition well deserved
This Saturday night, Tom Inman will be recognized for 30 years of service to the Estherville Fire Department.
And that’s an award well deserved.
Tom Inman is one of those Estherville citizens who is at the center of everything. Whether it’s fighting a fire, running a business or donating his time to the chamber, Inman makes sure things happen and that they happen right.
We could use a lot more people like Inman, his son, Chris, who is following in his father’s footsteps as a firefighter and community volunteer and the rest of their family. They’re community backers, builders and believers.
And you can’t get any better than that.
Wind program and students impressive
You only had to see the number of tables at the job fair at the Iowa Lakes Community College Wind Energy and Turbine Technology building Wednesday to realize how much of a reputation the program has made in the industry.
It’s absolutely huge.
As one of the first three training programs in the country to be certified by the American Wind Energy Association, the college wind energy program has earned its stripes and then some as a leader in wind energy training.
Even before that, though, the program received accolades and even grants and gifts from the wind industry which saw its contributions as an investment in a great program for training future employees.
Equally impressive is the caliber of the students that are entering the program. Many have bachelor’s and a few even master’s degrees. Many have extensive experience in construction, mechanics and electrical trades.
Probably the most impressive thing, though, is that they’re gentlemen (plus a few ladies, of course) who always conduct themselves in a mature and responsible manner. They are truly a cut above.
We’re lucky to have them in our community, renting homes, patronizing our stores and volunteering throughout Estherville.
If you’re lucky enough to meet one of these students, understand that you’re meeting someone who is driven and determined to succeed in building a greener America for us all.
