Thumbs up to the ELC Boosters for their $50,000 donation for weight room equipment that will be used for ALL ELC sports. This is a great use for the money, and a great way to see it spread around to the athletes and students who can benefit from it.

Thumbs up to the Emmet County Volunteer Network for rounding up volunteer organization partners. If your organization would like to be part of this important, vibrant network, go online to www.volunteeremmetcounty.com

Thumbs up to Bob Jennings, Pat Kibbie and Chris Fuhrman, for being sworn on to the Iowa Lakes Community College Board of Trustees. This is the first term for Chris who has already shown exemplary leadership skills. It’s wonderful to see such great expertise on the board.

Thumbs up to federal lawmakers who came to an agreement on a budget deal. Let’s please not do that again for a while, though. Okay?

Thumbs up to the Estherville Lincoln Central Champion in Education who will be announced tonight at the Estherville Golf Course. This year’s champion will join an esteemed pantheon of past recipients.

Thumbs up to area farmers for producing an excellent crop, despite a drenching wet spring and dry summer. You have shown again that Iowa farmers have what it takes to feed the world.

Thumbs up to the Iowa Lakes Community College grad assistants, student ambassadors and student senators who were introduced to the college board of trustees Tuesday. These bright and ambitious young men and women come from all around the country and we’re really lucky to have them here in Estherville.

Thumbs up to the Estherville Lincoln Central Marching Band for earning a Superior rating at the state band competition last Saturday.
