Thumbs up, thumbs down
Thumbs up to the Emmet County Historical Society on its 49th annual meeting last Friday at the Estherville VFW. Mildred Bryan noted a lot of projects that board members and volunteers have done over the past year. It would be hard to find a paid director who could do half of what these able and dedicated people do to preserve our area’s history. Be sure to visit the museum when you have visitors next summer, and better yet, make a donation.
Congratulations to Michael Woods on recently receiving his CPA certification. This is a huge accomplishment and something of which he and his employer, Brinkman and Reed CPAs, should be very proud.
Thumbs up to accounting program coordinator and professor Lecia Berven on a great presentation at Tuesday’s Iowa Lakes Community College Board of Trustees meeting. Lecia should also be congratulated for her tremendously successful program that’s getting graduates jobs – and many locally. This is a wonderful example of how our local investment in education is training local people to find great jobs locally.
Thumbs up to the Estherville Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors Friday for presenting $500 to the Estherville Fire Department for a rescue vehicle and another $500 to the Avera Holy Family Foundation toward finishing patient rooms in the hospital.
Thumbs up to Emmet County 4-Hers who will be honored 7 p.m. Sunday at the Forest Ridge gym in Gruver. These young people have done a lot of work – some for quite a few years – and this is a well-deserved recognition.
Congratulations to new members of the National Honor Society who will be inducted 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Estherville High School gym. Leading the NHS ceremony will be Rachel Bates, Brianna Enerson, Rebecca Lair, Kyle Marks and Heather Natterstad who were inducted last year. The public is invited. New senior members are: Bailey Adolph, Tia Bernholtz, Cole Budach, Madison Burns, Kayla Evans, Joseph Heinrichs, Rachael Mueller, Timothy Soper and Alec Wycoff. New junior members are: Kayla Jensen, Megan Jensen, Samantha Rosinger and Reese Vedder. If at all possible, please try to arrange your lunch hour to come and honor these young people.
