On the mat
Editor’s note: Estherville Lincoln Central wrestling coach Dan Hewitt received this letter from a Sioux Central parent and asked us to share it with our readers.
My name is Rita Schau and while that might not ring any bells with you, I am the mom of Colton Schau, a freshman, second-year wrestler at Sioux Central.
I’m writing this note to you to tell you how great I think your #1 state-ranked wrestler Oscar Ramirez is. Last Saturday, Jan. 11, after two forfeit wins due to no one in his weight class, his third opponent was Mr. Ramirez. While your wrestler could’ve easily pinned my son in under a minute, he didn’t. He gave him the opportunity to learn and work on technique. That showed me (and I was unable to make this meet, so I’m speaking from what my son said) that Mr. Ramirez is an honorable young man who loves the sport of wrestling.
Please share this note with anyone you’d like. From a mom of a skinny, 132-pound 6’1″ kid who loves wrestling and is still learning, I say thank you.
Thank you for coaching young men and thank you to Mr. Ramirez for his honor on the mat.
P.S. We’ll be cheering for young Mr. Ramirez at State.
