Red Cross collects 66 units in Estherville

By Staff | Feb 21, 2014

The Red Cross came to Estherville just in time for Valentine’s Day so that our donors could give the gift of life. We were able to collect 66 units of very much needed, life-giving blood.

We had about seven new donors, folks whose names I did not recognize. I thank each and every person who came in to donate.

Because of the horrible weather we have suffered recently, the Red Cross has had to cancel over 700 blood drives, at a loss of about 35,000 units of blood. That loss will never be erased, but it can be softened by people like the donors who came to the blood drive on 2-11-2014. If you hear of a nearby blood drive and are in a position to go to it, please do. The need is constant and only YOU can fill the need.

It has been my honor and privilege to serve the Red Cross and Estherville by coordinating four blood drives a year as a volunteer.

I have reached a time when I must “retire” from doing this. So, in order to keep on helping people in need, we must have another volunteer. It is NOT hard work and does not take that much time, but the reward is a great feeling. If you would be interested in this very important “job” please call me at 712-209-0922.

The last blood drive that I will coordinate will be May 6 at the Duhigg Center from 12:30-5:30 p.m. and is being sponsored by Drs Bruns and Williams.
