Could be greater
To the Editor:
In response to the editorial in Thursday’s paper that took exception to one of my campaign signs which reads “MAKE EMMET COUNTY GREAT AGAIN”, it surprises me that anyone could have a problem with that message.
To put it simply, Emmet County’s population has fallen by more than a third in the past 56 years. We are producing ghost towns through the loss of goods and services in our outlying communities which once supported rural residents. Factor in expected growth and our population is less than half of what it should be right now. How can anyone think that’s “great”? The first step in finding a solution to any problem is admitting that there IS a problem.
“MAKE EMMET COUNTY GREAT AGAIN” is admittedly a lighthearted parody of Trump’s campaign slogan but it nonetheless communicates something sincere and more meaningful than just touting my name on a campaign sign which I believe intelligent voters deserve and should demand.
