Emmetsburg used three different pitchers against Class 2A No. 10 Estherville Lincoln Central, but the E'Hawks never got on track offensively or defensively.

Leading 4-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, ELC burst through with eight runs and then held the visitors scoreless in the fifth to win by the 10-run rule, 12-1.

"We just found away to get on base tonight," said ELC coach Lee Evans, whose team finished with just seven hits, but drew 12 walks on the night. The hits and walks plus three E'Hawk errors helped make a short night for the Midgets.

ELC put up a run in the first inning and took advantage of seven walks by starter Will Schany to score three more runs in the second to take a 4-0 advantage.

Emmetsburg scored its lone run in the top of the fourth when they had two of their four hits on the night.

However, ELC starter Trevor Friesner finished with eight strikeouts on the night to just one walk while giving up just the four hits.

"Trey threw well again tonight," said Evans.

In the bottom of the inning, Briar Rowley led off with a double. Evan Olesen singled deep in the hole to the shortstop, but Rowley was unable to advance. After Lucas Gardner singled to left as Rowley came home. Two outs later, Blake Miller drew a walk to load the bases and a double to right center by Seth Loock brought in two runs. Trey Jacobson reached on an error as two more runs crossed the plate. Jacob Bosch and Rowley both drew walks to load the bases and a walk to Olesen brought Jacobson home. Gardner capped off the eight-run inning with a two-RBI single to left.

While Jacobson gave up a leadoff single to start the top of the fifth inning, Jacobson retired the next three batters on two strikeouts sandwiching a groundout back to him.

At the plate for ELC, Gardner finished 2-4 with three RBIs, Olesen was 1-1 with two RBIs, Miller was 1-1 with a double, Rowley was 1-2 with a double and an RBI, Loock was 1-3 with two RBIs and Jacobson was 1-4 with two RBIs.

ELC (18-5 overall, 7-3 in the Lakes Conference) was at LeMars on Wednesday. The Midgets host Sheldon this evening and then finish at the conference schedule against Cherokee at home on Friday.
