A-R rally falls short – Cheever leads Mustangs with 13 points, 9 boards

ARMSTRONG — After a rough first half, the Armstrong-Ringsted girls basketball team put together rallied to within two points of Clay Central-Everly, but the Mavericks hung on for a 43-28 victory.

“We couldn’t put anything together in the first half,” said A-R assistant coach Keilah Redman. “In the second half, the girls came out wanting it and stepped up.”

The Mustangs trailed 9-4 after one quarter and 25-14 at the break.

They regrouped in the third quarter, holding CCE to just two points while cutting the deficit to 27-25.

The Mustangs were led by Rosie Cheever with 13 points and nine rebounds. Michele Iris also reached doubles digits as she scored 10 points to go along with four steals.

Morgan Grabinoski added nine points.

A-R (1-3, 0-2) returns to action Monday at Emmetsburg.
