Indians open Lakes dual season with pair of wins

STORM LAKE — The Spirit Lake Park wrestling team started the season as one of the Lakes Conference leaders with dual wins over Emmetsburg/Armstrong-Ringsted and Storm Lake on Thursday.

A year ago, the Indians, E’Hawks and Spencer tied for the dual conference title as each finished with a 7-1 record.

Thursday, SLP edged Emmetsburg/A-R 37-31.

Against the E’Hawks, Lewis Johnson (103) had a pin in 53 seconds; Dillon Miner (130) pinned his opponent in 1:21; Grant Willard (135) won 11-1; Brandon Griffin won 13-8; Nolan Meyer had a pin in 27 seconds and Alex Will (285) had a pin in 19 seconds. Also Derrick Miner (125) received a forfeit.

The Indians fared better against Storm Lake with a 50-26 win.

Derrick Miner and Dillon Miner both had pins–in 1:14 and 1:24, respectively–Meyer (160) had a pin in 2:43, Ahrenstorff had a pin in 5:24; Kyle Kruger (189) had a pin and Will had a pin in 1:56.

Also, Nick Schultze won by technical fall, 22007 and Willard (135) won 6-0. Johnson received a forfeit at 103.
