Knights place fourth at Sibley – Tatman wins 103-pound title
SIBLEY — The Graettinger/Terril wrestlers came home with one champion and a fifth-place finish at the Sibley Invitational on Saturday.
James Tatman won the 1-3-pound bracket with the Knights garnering two second-place finishes as well with Kass Schany (160) and Jake Hoffman (189).
“Overall the kids wrestled well,” said G/T coach Cody Alesch. “We were without a few kids, but the kids that went, all wrestled tough.”
Tatman opened the day with a pin over Aurelia/Galva-Holstein’s Ronnie Huseman in 32 seconds and then won by major decision over MOC-Floyd Valley’s Ethan Lambert, 13-0.
Schany opened with a pin over West Lyon’s Nick Thompson in 39 seconds, then won by injury default over Sheldon’s Evan Ascherl.
In the finals, he faced Sibley-Ocheyedan’s Brian Block rated seventh in Class 2A. Block won 11-3 major decision.
At 189 pounds Hoffman, No. 2 in Class 1A met the top-rated 2A wrestler in the finals. To get there, Hoffman pinned Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn’s Jordan Petersen in 3::21 and then won 7-4 over West Lyon’s Jason Koedan.
In the finals, Hoffman took on Sheldon’s Josh Ihnen and lost by fall in 1:18.
Placing third for the Knights were Michael Jensen (135), Josh Anderson (171) and Kyle Brown (285). Ryan Schany (112) placed sixth. Logan Tonderum (140) and Taylor Harris (145) did not place.
The Knights return to action Thursday at Laurens-Marathon with Twin River Valley/West Bend-Mallard.
