A tough night – Tribby earns two pins as ELC drops pair of Lakes duals
EMMETSBURG — The Estherville Lincoln Central wrestling team finally competed in its first Lakes Conference dual meets on Thursday, but the Midgets didn’t quite have enough against either LeMars on Emmetsburg/Armstrong-Ringsted.
ELC lost 42-21 to the Bulldogs, but managed a few more points in a 51-25 loss to the E’Hawks.
The highlight of the night were a pair of quick pins by Kyle Tribby at 112 pounds.
The freshman only needed 12 seconds against LeMars freshman Cody Cumming and beat the E’Hawks Nick Larson in 43 seconds.
Ryan Kaltved (135) was the only other ELC wrestler with two victories. He opened the night with a tough 15-12 decision over LeMars’ Zach Reed and then received a forfeit from the E’Hawks.
At 130 pounds, Joel Christensen went 1-1. Against LeMars’ Anthony Schimek, Christensen led 2-0 when he got out of position and lost by fall in 5:12. The ELC junior dominated his match against the E’Hawks’ Nate Schany with a 14-4 major decision.
Tyson Enerson (145) opened with a pin in 3:58 against LeMars’ Jacob Stenesifer and then lost by fall to the E’Hawks’ Matt Stillman.
At 160 pounds, Nate Howard also got off to a slow start as he lost 5-3 to LeMars’ Ben Beitelspacher. Howard came back with a quick pin over E’Hawk senior Tyler Schmeling, a wrestler he beat this past weekend, in 1:00.
DJ Clinton (189) opened the night with a pin in 2:21 over the Bulldogs’ Spencer Vore. However, the E’Hawks Ridge Christiansen outscored Clinton 13-8 in the second match.
Spenser Schichtl (215) also came up short in his first match, losing 10-6 to Adam Pritchard. However, he earned a hard-fought 3-2 overtime victory over the E’Hawks Adam Leuer.
At 119 pounds, Nathan Spoo had a tough first match losing 12-9 to LeMar’s Quinton Vore. Spoo then lost by fall to the E’Hawks Jordan Cody.
Seth Shatto wrestled two matches at 140 pounds where he lost 11-10 to LeMars and then lost by fall to the E’Hawks.
Tyler McDermott and Michael Dieterich both wrestled a match at 152 pounds, with McDermott losing to the E’Hawks and Dieterich losing to the Bulldogs.
In other matches against LeMars, Zach Wycoff (171) and Julio Ruiz (285) both lost by fall.
In junior varsity action against LeMars, Austin Greig (119) won by fall in 2:00. DJ Peterson (135) wrestled two matches losing by fall in 5:39 and losing 11-7. Tyler McDermott (152) won a 12-11 decision over Tate Regan. Riley Edwoards wrestled twice, winning 10-4 and losing 10-9.
Dieterich (152) had the only junior varsity match versus Emmetsburg as he pinned Ben McCain in 53 seconds.
ELC returns to action this weekend at the Spencer Tournament. Wrestling starts at 11 a.m.
