Knights hold on for second win

By Staff | Dec 15, 2007

GRAETTINGER — Graettinger/Terril and Armstrong-Ringsted battled toe-to-toe in a Cornbelt Conference boys basketball matchup.

In the end, the Knights came out on top by a basket, 55-53 over the Mustangs.

“I’m proud of how hard we played,” said A-R coach George Walker. “Although we missed some ‘bunnies’ and free throws, we still almost pulled it out.”

The two teams traded baskets and the lead through much of the first half.

G/T’s Dalton Perrin opened the scoring with a pair of free throws with Craig Tigges answering with a basket.

A-R took its first lead when Tyler Tonderum knocked down a 3-pointer with 2:40 left in the first quarter.

Two baskets by Cody Dyhrkopp gave the lead back to the Knights at 12-10 at the end of the first quarter.

Brett Tigges tied the score up to start the second quarter and took the lead on two free throws by brother Craig, but Drew Skattebo knocked down a 3-pointer as the Knights led 15-14.

The Knights took their biggest lead of the first half after Dyhrkopp knocked down a 3-pointer and Skattebo made two free throws for a 27-24 edge. However, Elliot Kinnander scored before the end of the half to cut the deficit to one, 27-26.

In a low-scoring third quarter, the Knights took a 40-36 to start the fourth and hung on for the victory.

Brett Tigges led all scorers with 27 points.

For the Knights, Skattebo and Dyhrkopp each scored 14 while Leiting had 12.

A-R (0-4, 0-3) hosts Ruthven-Ayrshire on Tuesday.

G/T (2-5, 2-2) travels to Lake Park.
