Friday games – Indians cruise past Braves

SPIRIT LAKE — Kaisha Brown scored 21 points and had eight rebounds while Amber Kirschbaum had 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead Spirit Lake to a 62-37 victory over Cherokee on Friday.

The Indians shot 48.9 percent from two-point range and 44.8 percent overall in the win.

Meanwhile the Braves were held to just 17.5 percent shooing and scored half of their points from the free throw line where they were 19-for-29.

Mary Brown contributed five points along with a team-high six assists for the Indians.

Spirit Lake returns to action today as the Indians host Estherville Lincoln Central.

Spirit Lake downs Cherokee, 89-61

SPIRIT LAKE — The Spirit Lake boys basketball team built a 50-15 halftime lead and cruised to an 89-61 victory over Cherokee on Friday.

The Indians led 23-6 after one quarter. The pace slowed after halftime with Spirit Lake taking a 68-29 lead into the final frame.

Tyler Solsma led the way with 24 points as he was 10-of-15 from the field and 3-of 5 from 3-point range.

Three other players reached double digits with Andy Pringnitz scoring 15 points, Scott Maudlin 11 and Boomer Dreeszen 10.

Both Solsma and Pringnitz had nine rebounds.

Maudlin led the defense with four steals. He along with Solsma, Dreeszen and Joel Hegeman had four assists.

The Indians host Estherville Lincoln Central today.
