Spoo and Schichtl both win two contested matches to lead ELC

ALGONA — Estherville Lincoln Central’s Nathan Spoo and Spencer Schichtl each won two contested matches to lead ELC in its double dual in Algona on Tuesday.

The Midgets defeated Southeast Webster 60-12, but lost to host Algona 56-14.

Against Southeast Webster, all contested matches but were decided by pins with ELC coming away with six and the Eagles recording two.

For ELC Austin Greig (112) pinned Thomas Elder in 2:53 and Nathan Spoo (119) pinned Jared Carnlae in 36 seconds. At 152, Tyler McDermott pinned Chance Cooper in 52 seconds; Nate Howard (160) won in 22 seconds over Ryan Boge; Zach Wycoff (171) won in 1:34 over Zach Carstensen and Schichtl (215) won by injury default in 2:28 over Devin Gallentine.

In other contested matches, DJ Clinton (189) lost by fall in 27 seconds to Cody Vegors and Shane Wegner-Mendoza (285) lost by fall in 55 seconds to Dillon Heesch.

Receiving forfeits were Joel Christensen (130), Ryan Kaltved (135), Seth Shatto (140) and Tyson Enerson (145).

Against Algona Spoo added another pin, beating Eric Tull in 1:23 while Schichtl won an 11-9 decision over Lee Simpson. Greig had the only other ELC win as received a forfeit at 112 pounds.

In other matches, Christensen (130) lost by fall in 1:36 to Jake Ingalls; Kaltved lost by fall in 2:37 to Courtney Brandow; Shatto (140) lost by technical fall, 19-14, to Kyle Walker; Enerson (145) lost by fall to Cooper Heath in 1:15; Howard (160) lost 4-3 to Ben Schultze; Clinton (189) lost by fall to Logan Johnson in 2:55; and Wenger Mendoza (285) lost by fall in 1:33 to Ben Kern.

In junior varsity matches, Michael Dieterich (152) had the lone ELC win as he pinned Algona’s Tayler Prothman in 1:459.

Daniel Acosta (160) and Julie Ruiz (285) each were 0-2. DH Peterson (145), Riley Edwards (160), Zach Wycoff (171) and Dillon Ford (189) were all 0-1.

ELC hosts its dual tournament on Saturday.
