STORM LAKE — Class 3A No. 15 Estherville Lincoln Central won its ninth straight game with a 52-45 victory over Storm Lake on Friday.

The Midgettes haven’t lost since a 48-40 defeat at the hands of currently No. 4 Spencer on Dec. 4. The Tigers come to Estherville next Tuesday.

ELC didn’t have an easy time with Storm Lake. The Midgettes built an 11-point halftime lead, 30-19, but the Tornadoes cut the deficit to one in the second half.

However Landra Lapka grabbed an offensive rebound who kicked the ball out to Christa Clayton for a 3pointer to push the lead to four points and the Midgettes held on in the fourth quarter.

ELC had another good night at the free throw line, making 20-of-24 from the charity stripe.

“We knew it was going to be a battle and we’d have to do some things right to get out of this one with a win,” said ELC coach Brad Leonard. “It’s the story of our team. When we’re playing good defense, we’re playing good.”

Clayton led ELC with 18 points while Taylor Larson was ended with 12 points as she was 12-of-12 from the charity stripe.

Lapka had eight points while Melanie Bandow chipped in seven, Taylar Jacobson had four, Emily Jensen had two and Alex Olesen had one.

ELC (13-2, 9-1) will host Spencer on Tuesday.

The ELC junior varsity girls won 35-19 over Storm Lake.
