Knights’ rally comes up short – Petersen scores 11, Girres 10 for G/T
EVERLY — A 16-0 first-quarter deficit may deter most teams, but the Graettinger/Terril girls basketball team came all the way back before falling in the fourth quarter in a 48-31 loss to Clay Central-Everly on Tuesday.
The Knights outscored their hosts 15-2 in the second quarter to trail just 18-15 at halftime. They cut the deficit to two midway through the third period, but trailed 32-26 to start the final period.
“Our defense did an overall good job, but we need to become a little more physical and do a better job on blocking out,” said G/T coach Roger Conway. “Offensively we moved the ball better tonight and found the open girl.”
Theresa Petersen led G/T with 11 points, including 2-of-3 from 3-point range, with seven rebounds, three steals and two assists. Malorie Girres had 10 points and eight rebounds while Liz Sparks chipped in seven points.
The Knights (4-9) travel to West Bend on Friday.
