Lakers cruise past AIB – Boje leads way with 22 points

DES MOINES — Samantha Boje scored 19 of her game-high 22 points in the first half and the Iowa Lakes defense took over in the second half in a 77-36 win over AIB on Wednesday.

Boje, the Lakers’ 5-5 point guard from Waseca, Minn., had six 3-pointers on the night as she led her team to a 38-18halftime lead.

“We didn’t play reall well in the first half,” said Iowa Lakes coach Brian Radtke. Samantha saved in the first half.

Radtke said his defense stepped up and held AIB scoreless for the first 8 minutes or so of the second half before letting up.

They shouldn’t have scored 36 points and we missed a lot of layups,” he said.

Shanda Novak added 11 points and four assists while Kym Zitnzer contributed eight points, 10 rebounds and four steals.

Ricca Soper had nine points, all from 3-point range. and Jazzmine Hall had eight points.

AIB is at the bottom of the Region XI with an 0-9 league record.

Iowa Lakes (12-3, 4-1) turns around and faces the other end of the spectrum on Saturday. The Lakers travels to Fort Dodge to take on league leader and No. 1 rated Iowa Central (16-0, 5-0) on Saturday.
