FORT DODGE — The Iowa Lakes women’s basketball team didn’t bring its best game against top-ranked Iowa Central on Saturday.

The Lakers missed some of the shots they normally make as the Tritons (18-0, 7-0) built a 20-point second-half lead and held on for a 67-53 win.

“I didn’t feel we played well,” said Iowa Lakes coach Brian Radtke. “They (Iowa Central) did a good job on defense against us. They didn’t let us have the ball in the middle. But we had no production off the bench and we weren’t going to the boards.”

Samantha Boje kept the Lakers close in the first half with four 3-pointers. The Tritons built an eight-point lead at 20-12 when Boje hit her third trey to cut the deficit to five.

The Lakers closed the gap to four points with two free throws and a basket by Karissa Kramer at 23-19.

However, the Tritons scored the next six points before Boje hit her fourth trey.

Former Cherokee standout post player Jessica Hunecke scored the final basket of the half though as the hosts led 31-22.

Iowa Lakes kept the lead within 7-10 points midway through the second half, but the Tritons put together an -80 run at one point to lead by 20, 59-39.

Iowa Lakes made one last run at Iowa Central with Boje hitting three more treys and Karissa Kramer also knocking one down to cut the lead to 10, 63-53 with just over two minutes remaining.

However the Lakers wouldn’t score again.

Boje led the Lakers with 21 points, all from the 3-point arc where she was 7-of-10.

Kramer tossed in 14 points.

Iowa Lakes was was perfect from the free throw line in 16 attempts led by Kym Zitzner, who was 6-of-6.

Shanda Novak had a team-high nine rebounds.

The Tritons were led by Hunecke with 23 points and 10 rebounds.
