LEMARS — The Estherville Lincoln Central boys basketball team gave another good effort, but couldn’t keep with LeMars in the second half as the Bulldogs pulled out a 57-45 victory.

ELC started slow, falling behind 13-5 after one quarter, but cut the lead to one early in the second quarter.

The Bulldogs came up with a couple more baskets and led 26-22 at halftime. LeMars stretched its lead to 41-33 after three quarters.

Kyle Grems led ELC with 13 points, 11 coming in the first half. Caleb Caboth had 14 points with eight in the first half.

Matt Gruhlke scored all seven of his points in the second half. Dylan Sievert had four points while Scott Schmidt, Marcus Stangl and Aaron Andrews each had two points and Keith Fandel had one point.

LeMars out-rebounded ELC 24-22. ELC was led by Grems with nine rebounds.

However the Midgets had 21 turnovers to just 13 by LeMars.

ELC coach Joey Grau said the team continues to improve.

“These kids are ready. They showed what they have tonight and didn’t throw in the towel,” he said.

ELC (2-11, 0-9) will host Emmetsburg in a make-up game on Thursday.
