‘Stangs sweep series with G/T

By Staff | Jan 23, 2008

TERRIL — The Graettinger/Terril girls basketball team gave Armstrong-Ringsted a better game in the two teams’ second meeting of the season on Tuesday.

However, the Mustangs still had too much firepower in a 56-46 win over the Knights.

“I thought our offense showed as good of consistency as we have had this season,” said G/T coach Roger Conway. “We worke hard on dfense, but got hurt on teh offeensive rebounds and threes.”

A-R, which won 76-36 in the teams’ first meeting, jumped out to a 13-5 lead in the first quarter and held onto that margin to halftime, 25-17.

However it was a late third-quarter 11-2 Mustang run that put the game out of reach for G/T and gave A-R a 45-28 edge heading into the final frame.

G/T was led by a 22-point, 11-rebound effort by Theresa Petersen with 16 points from Malorie Girres.

Dakota Hovinga had six points, six rebounds and three steals.

No A-R stats were available at press time.

G/T (4-10) hosts North Sentral Kossuth on Friday.

A-R (6-8) hosts Ventura on Friday.
