No. 10 Tigers pull away from Indians

SPENCER — Trailing by just one point late against Spencer, the Spirit Lake boys basketball team appeared poised to at least have a few chances to beat the Class 3A No. 10 Tigers.

However, Spencer scored the final 13 points of the game to pull out a 57-43 victory on Tuesday.

Spirit Lake led 14-11 after one quarter, but were outscored 15-4 in the second to trail 26-18 at halftime.

The Indians cut the deficit to 38-33 to start the fourth quarter and had the lead down to one early in the period.

The loss halts the Indians seven-game winning streak.

Spirit Lake was led by Mason Bergquist with 10 points while Scott Maudlin and Andy Pringnitz each had nine points and Tyler Solsma had eight points.

The Tigers’ Dan Johnson had 18 points and Kyle Fitch added 16.

Spirit Lake (12-3, 7-4) travels to Cherokee on Friday.
