No. 5 Spirit Lake girls sweep season series with Spencer

SPENCER — Class 3A No. 5 Spirit Lake showed its first win over No. 9 Spencer wasn’t a fluke as the Indians beat the Tigers for a second time on Tuesday, 44-41.

This time it was on Spencer’s home floor.

Spirit Lake won 48-42 on Dec. 11 in the teams’ first meeting of the season.

The Indians were led by Kaisha Brown, who was 7-of-14 from the field and 6-of-7 from the free throw line for 20 points including the final six of the game. She also had nine rebounds.

Spencer led most of the way, but went 1-of-5 from the free throw line in the closing minutes and they were 4-of-10 from the charity stripe for the game.

The Tigers led by as many as five in the first half, but the Indians closed the gap to two, 20-18, by halftime.

Spirit Lake’s Amber Kirschbaum contributed 10 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots to the victory.

Mary Brown had five points along with at team-high five assists while Chelsie Stettnichs was 5-of-10 from the free throw line for five points.

Spirit Lake returns to action Friday at Cherokee.
