Lakers come up short vs. Panthers

IOWA FALLS — With one of the starters out of action, the Iowa Lakes women’s basketball team came up a point short against Ellsworth, 65-64, on Saturday.

The Lakers, playing without sophomore forward Kym Zitzner. had built an 11-point lead in the first half, but the Panthers hit two 3-pointers before half to cut the deficit to five, 38-33.

“That kind of gave them the momentum and they took the lead in the second half,” said Iowa Lakes coach Brian Radtke.

The Lakers did go up by two late in the game, but missed a three to go up by five. Ellsworth tied the game and retook the lead. The Lakers last-ditch effort didn’t fall.

Karissa Kramer led three players in double digits with 14 points along with a team-high seven assists and seven steals.

Shanda Novak had 12 points and five rebounds while Jynna Coyle had 10 points and five assists.

Iowa Lakes (16-6, 7-4) hosts Des Moines Area Community College at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
