Indians finish with 19-2 record

SPIRIT LAKE — Playing back-to-back night, Class 3A No. 4 Spirit Lake started slow but pulled steadily away from Storm Lake in a 64-40 victory on Tuesday.

Amber Kirschbaum had 17 points, 11 rebounds, seven steals, four assists and a blocked shot to lead the Indians. Kirschbaum was 6-of-11 from the floor for 54.5 percent.

The Tornadoes stayed with the Indians for one quarter with the score tied at 14-14, but Spirit Lake took a 27-20 lead at halftime and then held the visitors to just four third quarter points while expanding the lead to 47-24.

A night after scoring 29 points against Estherville Lincoln Central, Kaisha Brown contributed 13 points.

Chelsie Stettnichs added seven points while Mary Brown, Regan Sieperda and Leah Hilpipre each had six points. Mary Brown also had four assists.

The Indians were 21-32 from the free throw line.

Spirit Lake ends the regular season with a 19-2 record and 14-2 in the Lakes Conference. The Indians open postseason play at home against MOC-Floyd Valley. The victor plays the Storm Lake/Spencer winner at Spencer.
