Indians pick up pace to beat Tornadoes
SPIRIT LAKE — After both teams struggled shooting the ball in the first half, Spirit Lake and Storm Lake picked up the scoring in the second half.
However, the pace was more to the Indians liking as they won 49-38 against the Tornadoes to improve to 15-5 overall and 10-5 in the Lakes Conference with just one regular season game left.
Spirit Lake plays at Emmetsburg on Friday.
Against Storm Lake, the Indians led 6-4 after one quarter and 14-9 at halftime.
The paced picked up in the second half, but the Indians still won each of the last two quarters. They outscored the Tornadoes 16-12 in the third quarter to lead 30-21 and won the final quarter by two points.
Scott Maudlin had the hot hand with 16 points including 8-of-8 from the free throw line. Mason Bergquist chipped in 13 points while Andy Pringnitz had nine points.
Tyler Solsma led the rebounding effort with eight boards while Bergquist had a team-high nine assists.
Andy Pringnitz patrolled under the basket defensively with all five of the team’s blocked shots.
The Indians were 1-of-40 from the floor and 15-of-28 from the free throw line.
