Novak leads Lakers past Spartans

CRESTON — Shanda Novak scored 25 points and pulled down 15 rebounds as Iowa Lakes defeated Southwestern 74-53 on Saturday.

“We got the ball inside to her and she ran the floor well too,” said Iowa Lakes coach Brian Radtke. “She got ahead of their post players and made some layups.”

The Lakers also had a 14-point effort from Jynna Coyle.

“Jynna’s starting to figure some things out,” said Radtke.

Karissa Kramer contributed 11 points, including 7-of-9 from the free throw line, along with eight of the team’s 19 steals.

“We’re playing better, but we’re not all there yet,” said Radtke.

The Lakers led 36-27 at halftime and then scored the first eight to 10 points of the second half to put the game away.

Iowa Lakes (17-7, 8-5) is on the road against North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City on Wednesday.
